I started Sharp Builders after experiencing an unpleasant experience with a general contractor after investing financially as a private investor in two flips with my wife in Union Beach, NJ.
It was a nightmare of an experience - with major delays, incorrect and incomplete work along with financial loss. The frustration from that horrendous experience made me realize that there is shortage of reliable and trustworthy contractors and I wanted to fill that void. During our experience we were novices to construction, timing, real estate and financing.
I decided to learn the trade, earn my contractor’s license, and build a network of trusted professionals. Now, with Sharp Builders, I get to give homeowners exactly what I was missing back then - reliable, thorough, and high-quality service that makes the renovation process smooth, stress-free, and done right the first time.

When the opportunity was presented to us to purchase a property in Union Beach for $16,000, the plan was simple—start construction and turn it into something valuable. But things quickly unraveled. Major permit and construction issues halted progress before construction could continue, leaving us stuck in a situation created by a general contractor who didn’t deliver. To get out, we had to find a cash buyer willing to take over, but even that came with its own roadblocks. During the transfer, we discovered major title issues that had to be cleared before the sale could move forward. Resolving those issues cost us and other private investors a substantial amount of money to walk away from the deal.
At 416 Bayview, us and other private investors had a brand-new construction project with a buyer already under contract and a strict timeline for completion. Unfortunately, the process turned into a nightmare. The general contractor consistently failed to show up on time, causing major delays and dragging the build far past the expected schedule. On top of that, the work that did get done was riddled with issues—the footings weren’t set correctly, windows were installed backwards, the flooring was damaged, and the list went on. Since the hard money loan wouldn’t be released until construction was completed, every delay and mistake added more stress to the situation. In the end, I had to step in and address many of the problems myself just to keep things moving. To this day, we no longer speak with the general contractor who caused so much unnecessary hardship.
Home sold for $465,000 in 2018.
